I watched History is Made at Night yesterday, and I still haven’t stopped thinking about it. I want to watch everything this director has done. Criterion had fantastic extras about the restoration and Borzages other work. Highly recommend

After Texas banned abortion in cases where embryonic cardiac activity could be detected, Texas saw a 12.9% increase in infant deaths, compared with 1.8% for the rest of the country.
A growing body of research indicates that Texas's restrictive abortion bans have negatively impacted the health and lives of Texas women and babies in multiple ways. Across the board, pregnancy outcomes and complications have worsened.
What researchers have discovered about maternal, infant health under Texas' abortion laws
In the more than four years since the state of Texas significantly restricted access to abortion, medical researchers have been studying the health effects of that policy change.

I told my mom to get my husband the criterion channel for his Christmas gift and I’ve already watched 4 movies.

(He did want it. He was just too cheap to renew)

My entire feed is everyone watching LOTR. My parents usually do this, but I didn’t realize it was also a Bluesky holiday tradition. Guess I’ll start mine tomorrow with my extended dvd editions I got from my parents when they upgraded to Blu-ray

Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

This is outright Nazi stuff, and Democrats in Congress aren’t doing enough to try and stop it.
WaPo reports that ICE is planning 7 massive human warehouses holding 5,000 to 10,000 people.

Recalls the acting ICE director 2015 statement that he wanted to see a “business”-oriented approach to deportations, “like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings”.

I love fuzzys, but stopped going because the Dfw ones have been managed so poorly. Order is wrong 60% of the time. They aren’t clean, and staff basically don’t exist there. Torchys is going in the same direction, especially since they replaced cashiers with kiosks. So I’m all in for this new model

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.
