Ed Husic has challenged his own government to “pry open the jaws of Treasury” to boost funding for Australia’s national scientific agency after it announced up to 350 research jobs would be cut to deal with an imminent budgetary cliff.

I reckon that most of the ways in which Australia is great are things that are similar to progressive, social democratic European countries (Medicare 👀), and many of the things that suck the most are more like ultra-capitalist Anglo countries (political influence of irresponsible mining 👀).

As Australians we are meant to feel an affinity with the US and UK. To be honest I feel much closer to NZ and Canada than anywhere else.
I mean I love lots of countries and cultures but those two feel very similar to what I would prefer Australia be like.
