A few years ago, prior to Australia’s ‘Black Summer’, I began capturing extreme events as I became aware of them escalating to a frequency of becoming annual events - some type of disaster of unprecedented scale occurring somewhere where such an event was previously unheard of. 🧵

{tinytable} 0.13.0 for #RStats can now draw interactive tables with sorting, filtering & pages!

And the 📦 is still an ultra-simple, powerful, and 0-dep way to create beautiful tables in basically any format: tex, typ, docx, pdf, png, md, etc

Building web mapping apps in Shiny doesn't have to mean "slow".

I wrote the mapgl R package to bring high-performance web mapping to Shiny.

Check out the example in the video: instant filters, restyling, and legend updates - all from #rstats code.

From 1939-41, the WPA funded a massive Texas paleontology survey. I wrote about some of my favorite discoveries from its archives. Field crews behaving badly! Landowner nightmares! The creation of a creationist myth! Someone unexpected accidentally joins the Manhattan Project!

Here is a beautiful polished section of the Stromatolite Collenia undosa. This comes from the Precambrian (Paleoproterozoic) Biwabik Iron Formation in Minnesota. It is commonly referred to as Mary Ellen Jasper. This trace fossil is 2.2-2.4 billion years old!
