I keep seeing kids in their late teens and early 20s romanticize the year 2016. “It’s 2016 and you’re listening to this song…”

Guys, nobody liked 2016. Until 2020, it was considered one of the worst years anyone had ever seen. Everyone cool died. It was fucking miserable. Stop it.

The basic rights of our allies are not luxury beliefs but the core of any solidarity movement. If you can’t see this, you have bo business trying to take the lead in this moment nor do you have any business telling us what to do with our political power.

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

Same thing the House republicans said. "I hate this but I voted for it. I hope the Senate fixes it."

What they really mean. "This is horribly unpopular and people will die but my wealthy donors need their tax break."

“at odds with a federal law” means “illegal”, but God forbid we use plain language. The people making and enforcing this policy are breaking the law. In any new Administration, prosecute them.
“The Department of Homeland Security has formally instituted a new requirement that members of Congress and their staff provide a week of notice before they visit immigration detention facilities, a policy that is at odds with a federal law that allows lawmakers to make unannounced oversight trips.“

We are at a red-alert moment with queer stories right now. Literally this morning, I was chatting with a seasoned Hollywood producer who just had a project halted b/c executives were skittish about it being too gay. Not only is a mass-erasure of queer characters plausible... it's already begun.
I hope there's a course correction, but it's incredibly plausible that Hollywood's desire to not offend reactionaries ends up costing us 20-ish years of more diverse stories, roughly akin to the comparative drought of POC and queer stories in the '80s and '90s when compared to the '70s.
I'm no longer shocked when the truths come out but my heart still breaks every time. Queer youth are attacked at every turn and they can’t even have the respite of feeling seen by a movie, all so regressive bigots don’t have to feel discomfort for two hours.

“When U.S.-supported soup kitchens were forced to close, babies starved quietly, their mothers said, while older siblings died begging for food.”

The world’s richest man did this to the world’s poorest children.

If anything, it’s weird and disturbing that so many still do not.
I’ve warned about the nativist mind virus for many years. They’d destroy the economy, bankrupt the government, shred the Constitution, trample our freedoms, and imprison their own people to get what they want: not just mass deportation, but something more like ethnic cleansing

One of the key points of non-violent direct action is to force the authorities to stop you -- to force their hand, to make them arrest you, and yes, perhaps even make them lash out in violence -- and to broadcast those images to an otherwise apathetic public.

Be confrontational, not compliant.

I used to have a hard time doing this (it felt presumptuous to me), until *multiple* librarians I'm friends with told me that requesting stuff makes their jobs easier. They have budgets for acquisitions, and if users don't request enough things, they're left guessing what people might want.
Yup, it works. Want a book the library doesn’t have? Ask ‘em for it.
I don't have a good understanding of the behind-the-scenes workings of libraries, but mine keeps buying the books that I request, and my librarian friends have told me that I should keep doing that.
