We may not get Schumer. Durbin needs to be replaced as Minority Whip

The other thing about this deal? What was the point of the filibuster if we don’t get anything for it? Inflicted pain with nothing gained

Time to start organizing to put the fear of G_d in these Senators for their political lives if they don’t get a spine by January. For the retiring ones: fear that their legacy will always be tarnished. Schumer needs to feel at risk too

I was for the Ds averting the shutdown last time. I thought the politics at that time & the way DOGE was operating, a shutdown would have helped Trump. Now is different. Democrats! Current position is already too much of a concession. Give no more!

Ds need to be clear. If Trump starts arresting D leaders based on nothing, there is going to be an uprising in this country not seen since the civil war

If you assume all the rescissions in the rescissions bill stick and that the budget accounts never get additional plusups in future years, then Republicans would need to do another 35 rescissions bills the size of what they did last week in order to pay for the big beautiful bill.
Final CBO score of the "big beautiful bill" is out

Largest Medicaid cuts ever - in fact, at least 4 times the size of the previous largest; $894-$990 bn cut

Kicks 10 million off health insurance

Largest SNAP cuts ever, $197 bn cut

Still increases the deficit by $3.4 trillion from huge tax cuts

If instead of giving $117 billion to the richest 1 percent, that money had been evenly divided among all Americans, we'd each get $343 - or nearly $1,400 for a family of four.

A little something I chipped in at @itep.org ... The predominant feature of the tax and spending bill working its way through Congress is a massive tax cut for the richest 1 percent — a $114 billion benefit to the wealthiest people in the country in 2026 alone. itep.org/trump-megabi...

AI assistants for help and transactions would be more palatable if they didn't try to mimic human interactions. It makes them more annoying (and creepy). Just have them act unfeeling. Then it would be less annoying when they seem dumb or unresponsive. Then It's just a machine.

The House tax bill overwhelmingly benefits the wealthiest Americans.

Net tax cuts:
$138 billion for top 1% of Americans
$92 billion for bottom 60% of Americans

This will worsen wealth inequality through the tax code.

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

I've friends who've worked on pesticide regulation in federal government. It's weak. Science supports stronger regulation. So how do we deal with RFK Jr., whose random unscientific, dangerous, ideas can cause much harm, accidentally has something right? Support the policy while condemning the man?

This article about Blue Dog Ds in the House is from 2023 but I just read it. It highlights to me the importance of distinguishing btw moderate Ds voting on their moderate principles (OK if we want to rep moderate districts) & bad unprincipled stands pandering to the worst of Trumpism
