she/her - writer - listen to Small Things Bedtime Love Stories:

The amount of judgement I've faced about not drinking is similar to the judgement about not having children. It seems to come from the same place, "I'd like you to fit into this box I've provided, and if you don't fit into the box then I deserve an explanation as to why." It fucking sucks.
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Currently listening to Ruby Tandoh's audiobook All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now. It has made my evening commute pleasurable and that is the highest compliment I can give to anything by anyone.

I know many new writers worry about how readers will receive their work. That’s a valid concern! That said, two things:

1. This gig is only worth it if you write what YOU want.

2. Some will hate your stuff, but some will like it. Your readers. They’re awesome. Write for them.

Good thread
Shall we talk about ebooks?

It might be a bit of a weird thing for a physical bookshop to do, but bear with me. There's a reason.

Take a seat for a short thread. 1/?

I think about this constantly. Whatever romance existed with air travel is long long gone. Give me a sexy train with a bar cart.
I know I’ve said this more than once, and I know it’s really obvious, but taking the train between cities in Europe is just fantastic. So easy.

One of the dumbest mistakes North America ever made, and continues to make, is doing so relatively little with trains. Train networks are nation-building.

Being considerate of how your actions affect others is simply the cost of living in a society. If you don't want to care or think of anyone else go live alone in a forest cabin.
Actually, that doesn't sound too bad... maybe I should go live alone in a forest cabin.
My wild controversial opinion is that we do, actually, owe it to strangers to take basic precautions and engage in actions that ensure the safety and well-being of others, to make the world accessible and non-hostile and easy to navigate.

Being a writer means feeling a tiny pit form in your body when you're not included in random lists.
The fun part comes when you realize you haven't published anything in over a year and the pit doubles in size, sprouts teeth, and gobbles you up.
Anyways, this is a good list. Follow these folks.
I hear there are a lot of new people here this week. Here are some flash fiction writers for you to follow, if that's your kind of thing!

Highly relatable
I hate being at a time in my life where I feel very equipped to hold my own in an argument but I’m more preoccupied with finding new ways to reduce bodily inflammation.

My job also was in legal writing for websites--so I do have niche experience there as well.
Well got back from vacation to be laid off in a cost cutting move. So if anyone has any job leads in the content writing/editing/online teaching worlds, would be grateful

the thing about incarcerated trans people is that virtually no one will stand up for them & that’s fucking horrific because i literally cannot think of a worse place to be a trans person in america than prison.

if you’re cis you should read this.

trans people, keep on scrolling; you already know.
A new complaint from ACLU and other human rights groups details how the warden at a Lousiana ICE facility created an unofficial “work program” of manual labor and sexual humiliation for trans men at the facility. This is very hard to read.

It's only a matter of time before it makes the jump to this site, but one of the Charlie Kirk videos is EXTREMELY graphic, so if that's gonna be a hard watch, you can update your settings to turn off autoplay.
