what's interesting about this handholding stuff is that AAA games actually have the MOST affordance to cut those features. People will buy the new Metroid and try to push through it because it's a fucking Metroid game and they want to be Samus. They won't drop it the second something confuses them.

i haven't played the outer wilds DLC. do they ever clarify what nomai taste like? was really disappointed when i selected the "bite" dialog prompt on the quantum moon and it just cut to solanum's half-eaten corpse on the ground with no description of the actual process.

AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

Removing the monetization aspect of gambling / corrosive F2P mechanics / etc doesn't actually address the harm those types of games do, and the resultant "dopamine games" being the default engagement of choice for wide swaths of the populace is a condemnation of our way of life
