Excellent thread here by @rgoodlaw.bsky.social summing up just how dangerous this current moment is for our country.
<Thread>

I figure I need to explain how extreme and irresponsible is the June 7 Memorandum federalizing the National Guard and authorizing regular armed forces.

Those saying anything in support of this action may not realize what they’ve gotten into.

(It will also escalate from here.)

Large swaths of (largely Brown & Black) people standing around is not inherently violent. In fact, such a gathering of people is actually the very thing our First Amendment was written to protect: assembly.

This is a reasonable suggestion. Anyone who wants to be a Democratic leader should be willing to be in LA now.

And I don’t mean with a TV crew, or behind a lectern, or giving interviews, but simply to stand with the community and engage in congressional fact-finding.

And to tell any reporter that.
Well, Mr. Seth Abramson, how about

Every Democratic elected leader head to LA to stand in solidarity with the protesters against Trump's staged and illegal national guard and Marine call up for no other reason than he can and wants us Californians to bend our knees to his illegitimate rule.

SO?

KEEP CALLING. PEEL OFF ALL DEM SENATORS YOU CAN.

☎️: (202) 224-3121

Tell them to vote NO on Cloture and NO on CR. Vote is pushed to after 1:15ish for now. Situation is fluid.

The only public YES votes are Schumer and Fetterman. They need 7-8 total. KEEP CALLING.

Call retiring Senators too!

@schumer.senate.gov If Sen. Kelly and others can vote no on this, surely the leader of the opposition party can vote no! (Thank you Mark Kelly!) Sen. Schumer, a yes vote will do far more harm than a temporary gov shutdown. We must use this leverage to check trump/musk and protect [all the things]!
Senator Kelly posted this and per numerous reports will also vote no on cloture

💯 no notes
The way this works is that you either defend Khalil's First Amendment rights, no matter what you think about his specific views, or else you acquiesce to a totalitarian dystopia where the government can disappear people for expressing opinions opposed by the regime. There's really no middle ground.
Good piece on many university presidents' cowardly refusal to speak out against the Trump administration's ghastly, unlawful abduction and detention of Mahmoud Khalil in retaliation against his constitutionally protected speech. No surprise, but a shame nonetheless. slate.com/life/2025/03...

Watching @pbsnews.org Newshour tonight and a woman in Greenland told the reporter, “We don’t want to be a part of the U.S.A. for obvious reasons, like health care and Trump.” Girl, same.

Courts doing the thing (aka upholding the rule of law) today! ✊🏽
NEWS: Judge Amir Ali finds that the Trump administration is likely violating separation of powers in partially granting a preliminary injunction in the State Department/USAID foreign aid case. As with the TRO, he also finds the government is likely violating the APA with the non-payment issues.

Trump calling gender-affirming care "genital mutilation" takes away from the activists who are actually fighting to stop female genital mutilation and cutting, an extreme form of gender-based violence affecting young girls 19thnews.org/2025/02/trum...
Trump directive ‘dangerously’ conflates gender-affirming care with a human rights violation
Groups that work to end female genital mutilation and cutting worry about an executive order that co-opts anti-FGM/C laws.

Trump posted: ‘All federal funding will STOP for any college, school, or university that allows illegal protests. Agitators will be imprisoned or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS!’

Data from around the country indicates that many people arrested or deported by federal agents under Trump don’t have any serious criminal history at all, let alone any record that would raise fears about public safety. #SOTU2025 www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

It’s been six days since Chief Justice Roberts’s “administrative” stay in the foreign aid cases. That almost certainly means (1) someone’s dissenting; (2) the Court is trying to reach a compromise; or (3) both. Hard to be sure which it is, but the continuing pause is itself producing plenty of harm.
