Once again I’ll dip into the archive from the “before clouds” era.
This gorgeous star cluster is called the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, surrounded by the wispy clouds of a reflection nebula illuminated by the stars’ light.
Another winter gem that highlights the visible night sky.

Another smart scope image from last night, this time the Tadpole Nebula in Auriga imaged by the #Dwarf3 🔭. This is just over 2 hours of data, stacked and processed in PixInsight, with the nebula in HOO palette and the stars in RGB. #astrophotography

Trying to get ready for galaxy season; imaging at f/10 2000mm with an SCT is showing my collimation/tilt issues. Might go back to using a reducer for f/6 at 1240mm. For a test, here's the Running Man at full gallop in Orion :)

It's been a super busy week so I'm finally getting around to processing some images that I've been hitting over multiple clear sky nights. This one is the Medusa nebula and it's actually a planetary nebula but again has nothing to do with planets but was formed by a PG 1159 star.

Crazy and fascinating!

High-resolution images from Hubble, combined with data from the WM Keck Observatory, have allowed the identification of 9 rings in the giant galaxy LEDA 1313424, nicknamed "Bullseye".

Rare, massive Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars appear to explode in slow motion.

Two hours on the Orion nebula last night. I was shooting film through the 8" LX200 while guiding and shooting digitally with the SBIG on the Orion ST-80 riding piggyback. Excited to develop the film and see how it looks. #astrophotography

This is the North American Nebula (NGC 7000) and the Pelican Nebula (IC 5070) located in the constellation Cygnus. It is a mosaic image made from 7 photographs combined from several observing sessions. Dominate areas of hydrogen are in red and oxygen is rendered in blue

The Carina Nebula is one of the brightest and most active star-forming regions in the sky, located in the constellation Carina. It hosts the massive and unstable star Eta Carinae, which could explode as a supernova at any time.

Last night I was enjoying another night away from city lights. It must be obvious that Orion the hunter is my favourite constellation but I never usually see so many stars visible in that region. This is a handheld 4 second exposure using a phone camera (no tripod). #astronomy #astrophotography
