My husband keeps saying “I feel like he’s pulling an IT move and turning it off to turn it back on again.”
I just keep thinking he isn’t going to “turn it back on,” or if he does what will even be left.

Basically Trump admin is just shutting the government down—stopping major spending from foreign aid to health research, stopping agencies from communicating with the public, freezing hiring, stopping anything that looks like DEIA. It can do so much damage by just *not* doing anything.

When Trump complains about the judge refusing to release everything regarding his documents case - ignore him. There are still ongoing court cases for the people who WERE charged in connection to the case. Releasing them would interfere with ongoing cases. Maybe that was his point.

Two things can be true
1. NIH and NSF could be run way better - the way we organize & fund science is hardly optimal
2. What we're seeing is NOT likely to lead to some sort of science reform but cronyism and culture war nonsense that undermines the valuable work NIH & NSF support

The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!
That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
