Change is on the move in Tucson. Bold, outspoken leaders with real records on transit justice and complete streets are stepping up. People-first politics is winning ground.

When a child is killed by a driver, the question isn’t “Where were the parents?”

It should be: “Why was the street designed like a death trap?”

Pointing fingers at grieving families while leaving dangerous roads untouched isn’t just wrong, it’s obscene.

📣 TAKE ACTION: Contact your U.S. Senators by Friday, May 23 & urge them to include the Safe Routes to School Coordinator bill in Surface Transportation Priorities. Every state needs a coordinator to help make walking/biking to school safer for kids. #SafeRoutes

Every kid deserves a safe walk to school, not a daily dodgeball match with SUVs. School Streets = calmer mornings, cleaner air, and way fewer honks. Let’s make this the norm, not a novelty.
We are going to try out what I think will be Denver’s first ever “School Street” on bike to school day next month.

We need a few volunteers that day to help us make it happen. Please consider signing up!

Proud of my six year old who joined me to lobby Senators to Vote “NO” today. His message was simple: “No, this is not ok.” Thanks to @booker.senate.gov and @slotkin.senate.gov for welcoming us into your office and speaking with us.

Absolute 🔥🔥 from Sarah McBride: "We will not take a lecture on decorum from a party that incited an insurrection. I appear to live rent free in the minds of some of my Republican colleagues. The Republican Party is obsessed with culture war issues. It is weird and it is bizarre.”

Relishing small acts of defiance. This week, DC began removal of the iconic Black Lives Matter mural. This week, we were greeted with a replica. Albeit temporary and simple, but a poignant moment.

Several years ago, partners in the City of Tucson led robust engagement to create an equitable #CompleteStreets policy. I’ll never forget hearing from undocumented families: safe, predictable, well-marked streets meant less confusion, reducing the risk of being pulled over.
The conversation about the role of enforcement in Vision Zero is fraught right now, but it's going to get a *hell* of a lot more complicated if Trump is successful in giving more traffic cops many of the same powers as ICE. My latest for SBUSA.

A well-worn desire path on a hilly median leading to a multi-use trail. Wonder how often neighbors have to dart across this roadway to get to this nice pathway. Not to mention the pop-up lawn furniture for people watching or to take a break from trekking back up the hill? #saferoutesnow

Every coffee shop I rode by on my way to a lunch meeting today had several bikes parked outside.

On a 35°F day.

Not everyone wants to bike in winter (or ever), but when we make it safe & comfortable to bike via protected & connected bike lanes, more people choose to bike.

And we all benefit.

I can spend $60 on gear for my kids and that’s easy compared to gas. I cannot spend $300,000 on hospital bills when the cars squash us.
#WinterBiking is easier when you have access to a network of connected, protected & cleared (of snow/ice) bike lanes.

As an individual, it’s far easier to find solutions to stay warm & deal with remaining ice/snow than it is to find ways to stay safe when forced to bike with car traffic.
