We stood down half a million carrier pigeons and got on with our lives just fine using other communication methods. But some people can't even quit twitter? I repeat: a pigeon never paid Tommy Robinson's legal bills.
Easy to laugh at a headline like this from the era of Chamberlainite appeasement, but the feathery little heroes ended up doing a really important job and saving a lot of lives...

So a while back I was commissioned to do short bios of various rock stars, and they were just about universally total psychopaths, with the huge exception of Freddie Mercury. A lovely man who did good by his wife, his lovers, and his cats.
Today (24 November) marks the passing of Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. He remains regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music.

There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

me (very quiet, slightly anguished): oh NO I’m sorry
there are self-service machines here to do your biometrics before passport control & - trying to Require Minimal Help (as is my wont)- I used one & the guy tried to rescan my fingerprints & clicked around for awhile & finally in tones of polite German resignation is like, you have crashed the system

in retrospect running myself out of both elvanse and beta blockers just in time for a day of airports/liminal emotional spaces etc etc was maybe not the greatest idea

you guys oh my fg I was just at the pharmacy to pick up meds and i give my DOB to the girl at the counter and she goes, very cheerfully, “oh your birthday is only one day off my mom’s!”

cannot stress enough that this was a very friendly but very unequivocally a fully grown fully adult person

needed a new phone case and impulsively got a Mucha one because it made me think of being 10 or 12 and seeing his Seasons paintings in a book and thinking they were the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen

(also it’s so fucking good, begging you to watch it if you have not)

honestly it’s impossible to describe life with this brain without sounding ludicrous or like I’m exaggerating. which is why I mostly don’t.

Whatever else comes out once the attack on the ECML train last night, this alone is a credit to the train crew, driver, and signalling team.

Huntingdon was the first possible stop. In a highly stressful situation and improvising a plan the train lost just 3 minutes vs line speed to get there.
