This last sentence is ver important. MAGA pines for a historical and economic anomaly that is unlikely to repeat itself. (They also pine for the benefits of high income taxes and government spending without the taxes and the spending, another illusion.)

@carlquintanilla.bsky.social got it exactly correct. China has other buyers. Also, other sellers (Argentina for soybeans, for instance). We are a long way from the 1950s when the USA, largely undamaged after WW II, could set the trade rules for the world.
