I don't understand is the deification that now going on. He was a homophobe, sexist, white supremacist and was trying to influence others to his way of thinking.

Tariffs are protectionism. Import costs $75, domestic $100. To make the domestic preferred you put a tax on the import making it expansive
Importer has to pay a tax on the goods, exporters hate it because it closes the market
With no domestic sub, things just cost more since the importer has a tax

What I want to start seeing are the State Governors directing their State and Local police to stop these masked, unidentified alleged ICE agents and make them show ID and have valid judicial warrants before they haul off any person.
