I've long said that Europe helps the US (including under Trump) coerce Ukraine to make concessions to Russia for "peace". I've been sharply criticized. Today, German Chancellor Merz said "more compromise and more concessions [from UA] are no longer reasonable," confirming what I've said all along.

This is so incredibly frustrating. European allies should not be jumping over every stick Trump holds for them because the stick is just gonna move.

We need to focus on capability development, not % of GDP.

This isn’t getting nearly enough attention.

Estonian navy is stopped at intercepting a shadow fleet vessel because a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 violated Estonian air space. This reduces even the implausible deniability to 0, which Russia has been relying on with the shadow fleet.

Ukraine is Europe!
We stand by Ukraine.

We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the agressor.

Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.

In today’s Vatnik Soup, I’ll discuss how Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania cut the cord on Russian energy, further reducing their reliance on the Kremlin.

At the same time, the Baltics set an example for EU countries like Slovakia and Hungary whose leadership still worships Putin.

Why is TikTok still available in Europe and USA? When you read that large swats of European population, especially young people, decide how to vote through TikTok, that’s the moment it needs to be taken down for good. It’s a brain damaging social.

This is perhaps the best analysis of the dynamics surrounding JEF I've seen - @edwardlucas.bsky.social understands the region and talks to the right people to get a true feel for the field, including the things we might be too polite to tell most British to their face.
