I feel naive just writing this, but a president threatening to withhold funding to a city unless it elects his preferred candidate for mayor seems like the sort of thing that shouldn't be legal.
Trump on Mamdani: "He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?"

I'm not sure why people think this is a gotcha. My point was that Gingrich was turfed for being...Gingrich. That's not a defense of Hastert. Simply making the point that of Clinton and Gingrich, Gingrich is the one who got driven from his office.
Who was he replaced by Tom? Tom??? Who was the speaker following Newt?
Gingrich was driven out of the speakership in part because his behavior and his unpopularity and his ethics issues, which pissed off his own party and hurt the Republicans in midterm elections.
