Cal football/college football/bay area sports.
Update; 5-3. Bad coaching loss last week. Safe to say probably 90% of the fanbase is checked out on the Wilcox regime. It will be very hard to convince people to try and run this back again next year. Feels like a change is needed to bring a spark of life on the field.
A lot if the vibes on Cal twitter are weird because Cal has found a really ugly way to 5-2 and Wilcox fatigue is setting in. But Cal very well can still make it to like 8-4. Interesting and spooky times ahead as we enter the back half of the season.

Just came over here to say if you wrote off Cal and the Calgorithm….You made a mistake. Repent now and all will be forgiven. First chance at redemption is @splitzoneduo.com Do you repent and give your souls to Oski?

"The left went too far" in contemporary U.S. politics is almost always a lie and a very convenient way to rationalize moral failure. For example, "MeToo went too far" replaces "I do not care about sexual violence or its victims and I don't want to have to even feel bad about that"

Americans are so simple minded
More in No, Other People:

New poll:

“America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.”

• 80% of Americans agree
• 20% disagree

“I would be better off if I worked in a factory.”

• 25% of Americans agree
• 73% disagree
• 2% currently work in a factory

Generally enjoyed white lotus this season but it felt like they bit off more than they could chew and some storylines feel unfulfilled.

Pretty much exactly how I get through the days now
"And what happens as more and more of American society falls apart? Will my family die if we don’t flee? When will we know it’s time to? When will we know if the water we’re in has started to boil? Will we still be in the pot? Will you?"

I feel dumb for being an American
Threats to U.S. passport holders. Compromised news outlets. Constant cuts and layoffs. Drew Magary writes on his life under President Donald Trump.

Russia was not listed as a country subject to tariffs today…I wonder if this is really all a plot indirectly from Putin to stir protectionism and nationalism around the world (primarily Europe) and thus lead to far right parties gaining power in Europe who will be more cooperative with Putin.

Anyone else feel like the whole music festival phase has peaked?

Something I’ve been noticing anecdotally is a lot of people who moved during the pandemic now being laid off because companies are going back to the office. A lot of people making Bay Area salaries bought homes in FL/TX etc thinking it be like that forever and are about to be in over their heads…
I think there is going to be a Red Rural Recession and soon if all the cuts continue as is

All the firings, cancelling of grants and contracts with companies , the closing of offices, disproportionately impact small towns, cities and states.

Their finances will be turned upside

Rivera will be one of the highest paid GMs in CFB. Cal seems to be getting serious about major sports.

If democrats want to start winning again, they probably need to demonstrate that it can be easy/worth it to do business in cities. Permits should be relatively streamlined and straightforward.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

We have reached the moment where the dog catches the car.
Man there’s nothing really he can do to unfuck this either, is there? Like he can reset every tariff tomorrow, there’s still the uncertainty. Months at least before “ok he’s settled down for real” sets in, which he could undo at any time.

Not to be a doomer but it appears by every measure we are headed towards a deep economic turndown. How hard/fast it will it hit us remains to be seen.

Something that’s really really really hard to understand is that this photo is the reason why California has 25% of the nation’s homeless population. This scene plays out exactly the same* city after city.
A demographically diverse group showed up to a Petaluma city council meeting to give sober, considered feedback on a plan to build something downtown. For seven hours.

“Don’t buy stuff” is such an unserious ass protest. You want things to get better you need a massive nationwide strike like they do in Europe.
