I’m giving up on streaming entirely and reverting to mp3 players for my on-the-go listening. I already have a ton on vinyl and buy digitally on bandcamp, and I can get more from artists directly and the library. Fuck this shit

Books with Pictures is a sacred place for me. It has shaped and fostered my love for comics (and literature at large), and beyond the personal, it is an incredible community space run by incredible people. I cannot understate its impact.

God bless the workers of the world
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Talking during movies isn’t just rude, it’s the mark of a deranged sicko and a nation in decline. Disruptive theatergoers should be sent to live on an island with the people who yell at bands like they’re best friends and the people who refuse to use headphones in public.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I dunno, obedience isn’t really better than blind obedience so this is just an endless inward and outward fart session.
Head of Oregon National Guard tells troops deployed to Portland: “I know this isn’t easy. Some people in Oregon won’t understand or won’t support this mission. Some might even be hostile about it.”

This is how I pose with all the library books I check out knowing I’m only going to read like two of them before they’re due.
IMO many Americans don't even buy guns for personal protection or to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. They simply have a shopping addiction

Michael Brooks would have turned 42 today. Here he is flawlessly explaining why the Israel Palestine situation is not complicated. Why it's not even asymmetrical warfare, but an occupation.

Rest in peace Michael. You were the best of us.

Need to cheer myself up so here's the best Twitter post ever. It spawned one billion bad ripoffs but it's a beautiful magic trick. You don't just read it in his voice: he said it now. This quote is real.

The foundational (but often overlooked) Portland painter Isaka Shamsud-Din has died.

A survivor of the Vanport floods, Shamsud-Din is the artist behind many of the city's best loved murals.

He was 84.

It’s easy to feel disheartened when you encounter cowardice like this at every turn. I dunno how many times we need to see that acquiescing gains nothing other than delayed harm as a best case scenario, but it sucks.

The fact that we have to make the case against starving, bombing, and massacring children seems to be a pretty damning point of no return for our collective well-being.

It's pretty cool that the biggest paper in my area had its staff gutted, locks public safety articles behind a paywall, and now is turning to AI slop.
The Oregonian Is Using AI to Draft Stories
The editor said it’s “hard to say” on which stories the paper would use artificial intelligence.
