Can I drag your attention to the artworks by contemporary Czech palaeoartist, Vladimir Rimbala. His works are a perfect mix of modern science and retro composition (🧵)

#Dinovember2025 had Megaraptor in the list but I decided I wanted to do Gigantoraptor instead! After seeing it in a museum recently and it was very impressive!
I went for shaggy ostrich-like feathers on the arms instead of neat and tidy wings like other theropods

One of the funner moments from my South Africa trip occurred when these two little borbs decided to chase each other on the edge a lagoon.

(They're Black Crakes, btw.)

Years ago I went through a phase of putting chicken legs on ... stuff?
Everything I've ever made has always been a bit absurd and self-indulgent.

For example: here is a breakfast radish on legs, which I made of wool and wire.

Please enjoy this ridiculously cute butterfly, which was about the size of my pinkie fingernail. It's in the butterfly family called metalmarks (Riodinidae). Males, like these, have reduced front legs and perch using only the rear 4 (females can use all 6). Sarota acantus; Costa Rica 🐙🌿 #insects

For your consideration: Tiny shiny Aenasius encyrtid nugget wasp in her grooming routine. Just the cutest little metal machine ❤️
Like it's funny: it's a cute look for a beetle, but it's ridiculous that this shape is a wasp. The diversity of wasps is endlessly delightful.

Not a single day has passed without these lovely ladies adding cheer to it when I see them (they live nestled next to my favorite nook and are very good company there).
