the nonprofit news and government transparency org @muckrock.com is teaming up with an investigation desk that self-describes as "the George Santos prevention program.”

good news for the many local newsrooms that have lost their research desks 🌞 www.niemanlab.org/2025/10/rebu...

Are we surprised a guy whose son monitors his porn activity thinks seeing a bunch of naked people is threatening?
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson calls Sunday's naked bike ride in protest of the Portland ICE facility and and Trump troop deployment "the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet"

Resistance has many fronts.
One of the things I took away from the 60s and Richard Nixon, first mentioned by Hunter Thompson, but I believe to be true, is the fact that we believed, at time, that all our protesting, marching and sign waving was futile and pointless when in fact, it drove Richard Nixon to alcohol fueled madness
Everyone is trying to have a normal Saturday night and the president's top advisor is on X announcing that civil war is necessary

I’m really grateful for Pritzker. But that he’s so good at this also makes clear just how badly most other Democrats are failing to meet the moment.
In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

We all saw this.

“We” === the demographics that are currently being attacked and oppressed now.

Many dismissed us as over exaggerating or too sensitive. We were called too emotional and over reacting. Told to calm down. Told we were being bias.

Some other demographics are waking up. Slowly.
This story is worth a read, but it's so frustrating to see, since I know virtually everyone quoted in it (and the author) and ... there were *lots* of people warning of these coming dangers. Andreessen became a baby about his feelings long before taking offense to the slight from the Biden admin.

Happy 71st Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools.

She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama.

Terrifying day. The downstream consequences could be scary too. Of the many reasons not to tweet gleefully about Kirk getting shot (also: it's morally wrong), a big one is you don't want to give these people any more ammo in their fight to shut down two-party competition in America
