IMPORTANT: Before the fascist attack on Senator Alex Padilla, Kristi Noem said that her gestapo in California were staying to "liberate the city socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country."

Don't let that slide by.

Oh. My. God. This is horrifying.
Content warning: blood, serious head injury. A woman was run down and trampled and clubbed by LAPD officers on horseback. She appears to be seriously injured and bleeding from the head as an officer drags her limp body along the pavement.

Been speaking to a LOT of panicked faculty, parents and students here in China today. Now is when students at snagging visas for summer exchange trips and camps (so not just those heading to college). The lack of info on how temporary this "pause" may be is freaking a lot of people out.
Exclusive: New student visa interviews are on pause as Trump’s admin weighs requiring foreign students applying in the U.S. to undergo social media vetting.
Trump team orders stop to new student visa interviews, as it weighs expanding social media vetting
The directive came in a Tuesday cable obtained by POLITICO.

Real quote from the teenager who is about to start applying to college in a few months: "Wait. You mean you can own the land the house is on? And you don't have to give it back to the government?"

Guess this one's been in China long enough.

What the what?? I know a lot of people who work in auto plants, and I have yet to meet someone who is doing it with the hope that their kids, too, will work at the auto plant. The dream is typically for the kids to do something that makes more money or happiness. Those are the jobs of the future.
Lutnick: "It's time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future. This is the new model where you work in these kinds of plants for the rest of your life and your kids work here and your grandkids work here. We let the auto plants go overseas."

Interesting dive into parts of how China's social media censorship works. Makes some excellent points about what it is NOT.
A deep dive on online Russian army recruitment ads, China’s censorship apparatus, & how some Western media guess Beijing’s stance by reading between the wrong lines. Apparently, it’s not obvious: ⚠️ China is not censoring its social media to please the West. 🔗 Read: whatsonweibo.com/china-is-not... 🔒

🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody.

She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care.

This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

As journalism becomes harder to do (and harder to get paid for), it also becomes more dangerous.
“Worldwide, threats to journalists in conflict zones are increasing. In 2023, a journalist or media worker was, on average, killed or murdered every 4 days. In 2024, it was every 3 days. Most reporters harmed or killed, as is the case in Gaza, are local journalists.”
