I watched "Sentimental Value", directed by Joachim Trier, who made the very excellent underappreciated 2017 film "Thelma". "Sentimental Value" is about family, art, and generational trauma. It also has one of the most laugh-out-loud funny moments of any film I've seen this year.

Did this today, wonderful experience, everyone should go to the movies alone every once in a while
saw a movie alone, now driving to another theater to see another movie alone, blasting scott walker. feels like a drug binge

I somehow missed it last month when Mr. Bungle’s albums were re-released on vinyl, but picked up a copy of “California” this weekend. This record is an absolute all-timer for me - weird and funny and beautiful and unique.

Also May is this century's most profoundly feminist adaptation of Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN do not @ me
I absolutely go deep into this in my commentary of MAY, available from both Second Sight and Vestron 💜

The way @luckymckee.bsky.social navigates "good weird" and "bad weird" through the lens of femininity was revolutionary to my younger pre-diagnosed self.

One of this centuries best horror films!

Woke up this morning to a broken coffee pot on the coldest morning of the Fall. I'm very reluctant to log on to work and see what other horrors await.

Don't Bother to Knock is a film noir that stars Marilyn Monroe as a character straight from a horror movie. She is simply superb in it, and every horror fan should know this film just for her performance.

If I hadn’t already stopped shopping at Target, knowing that every employee within four feet of me was forced to talk to me would have driven me away for good.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

For some reason I was thinking of jobs I've had in my life that now are obsolete. These are the ones I came up with.

1. Local telephone company repair service (611) operator.

2.Working in Tower Video warehouse pulling laser discs off the shelf to ship to stores.

3. Sales clerk at Radio Shack.

We don't get enough trick-or-treaters to make sitting at home and giving out candy worthwhile, so we bailed to a local restaurant after work to avoid it. Several other people sitting at the bar with us were doing the same. Happy Halloween, and please don't TP my house. 👻

Watched a lot of horror this month, but one of the few non-horror films I saw was Kelly Reichardt's "The Mastermind", which I enjoyed quite a bit. Judging from what I've read online, it might not work for everyone. Pacing is very slow, but Josh O'Connor is great, and it's actually quite funny.

Wait, holy crap, BLACK RIVER ORCHARD is *two bucks* for your electromagic book reader of choice. A sinister apple called the Ruby Slipper begins to change the people of a small town! Cults! Suburban folk horror! Way too much apple-based information! Cats! Hope you check it out, too. OKAY BYE.
This is still just under five bucks for your favorite digital reading device, and I don't know why, but if I had to guess, it will stop being this price after today. So if you want creepy family dynamics and alternate reality horrors and maybe-haunted-house funtimes, THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS awaits.

Wendy and Lucy is always #1 in my book, but I like or love every Kelly Reichardt film and I always appreciate hearing what smart people like Scott have to say about them.
Today at The Reveal, I rank the nine films of Kelly Reichardt, which range from very very good to outstanding, because she's just that consistent. The list is really just an excuse to take stock of a brilliant career that almost wasn't. thereveal.film/worst-to-bes...
