Terrible news! Between 2021 & 2024 the ban on hunting turtle doves allowed the population to increase 25% - an astronomical speed of recovery. Before that numbers had been plummeting. Turtle dove population in the UK shrank by 98% between 1994 & 2021.
🚨 BREAKING: Turtle-dove hunting season reopens!

The EU Commission just gave the green light for EU countries to resume the hunt for European Turtle-doves, ending a 3-year pause.

This is reckless, short-sighted and will take this bird back to the brink.

Utter utter madness 🤬
The Trump administration is planning to cancel its lease at a government laboratory in Hawaii, a site where scientists support key observations of surging greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere, according to a list obtained by Democratic members of Congress and shared with The Post.
Trump moves to close facility that helps track planet-warming pollution
The lab is connected to the Mauna Loa Observatory, where scientists gather data to produce the Keeling Curve, a chart on the daily status of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.

Shocking. Never thought I'd live to see this.
I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.

We can easily spare a tenth of England for nature without affecting food production!

20% of our land produces just 3% of our food.

Vast swathes of our uplands are owned by about 150 wealthy landowners who use it for shooting grouse, and set fire to our biggest carbon sink, our peat bogs...
