The EU Ombudswoman has called out the European Commission for maladministration over the 2024 #simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

In 2024, the Commission launched an “urgent” Omnibus to amend two core CAP regulations.

Some EU decision-makers are on a mission to roll back vital nature laws.

Our response to that? #HandsOffNature!

Environmental laws need no fixing; they need enforcing. Leave them intact.

🏔 We are restoring Osogovo Mountain in North Macedonia!

This region is a sanctuary for Brown Bears, Golden Eagles, and rare Balkan endemic plants. Its mosaic of forests and grasslands is not only beautiful but also vital to the region’s environmental health.

Voices are rising to defend nature

From regional governments, to universities, businesses and civil society, they are all taking a united stand: Europe needs funding for nature.

More than 175 global IUCN Members sent an open letter to EU leaders urging them to keep funding nature.

⚠️In a few weeks, the European Commission will present a package, called environmental omnibus, that could roll back laws protecting our air, water, and wildlife... all to please powerful polluters.

It's time for the Commission to listen to people, not polluters.

🚨 Across Europe, farmland that once echoed with birdsong and buzzing life is falling silent, poisoned by the overuse of harmful pesticides.

These chemicals contaminate soil and water, kill the insects that birds depend on, and weaken the ecosystems that make farming possible.

🚨 Today, Agriculture Ministers are meeting to discuss the future of Europe’s Agriculture policy, and one crucial topic is on the table: nature.

‼️ Nature needs funding

Today, EU Environment Ministers meet to decide the long-term EU budget. They must stand up for biodiversity!

Europe’s nature is in crisis. The funding gap for protection is nearly €39 billion/year and growing steadily. #RestoreNature

Evitarlas es posible.

Existen prácticas que funcionan.

Necesitamos voluntad política para convertirlas en normas.

🚨 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 🚨

This is a critical moment. Several major EU laws – regarding energy transition - are implemented.

The EU is on course for a 54% climate emissions cut by 2030, but none of the specific biodiversity goals are currently on track.

🚨Protected areas are not development zones. 🚨

In 2024, Albania shockingly changed its Protected Areas Law to allow the construction of airports, resorts, and other developments inside protected areas.

This opened the door to projects that threaten some of the country’s most valuable natural sites.

The EU’s forests are vital for our #Climate and #Biodiversity goals 🌲

Efforts by Finland & Sweden to weaken the #LULUCF Regulation threaten this progress.🚫

Joined by international NGOs, we stand up for strong, science-based climate policy.
