I keep saying I should finish The Bright-Headed Boys, about lizard-people conspiracy theories, othering, dehumanization, classism in the guise of egalitarianism, and the evil which is capitulation and keeping mum. Truth is, that would require staring straight down deep into a lot of ugliness and–

Comics peeps! Did the Rich Johnston "worse than Jimmy Savile"/"wait til he's dead" thing ever come to any more light?

Opening this up as an opportunity. I name and work with other examples in the book, but which ones can you recommend?
Us Living's spine is the rise in the past thirty years of reality vs irreality or the presented real vs the existing impossible. Central agency of Shin Godzilla, The Invisibles, Promethea, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Possessor, The Conjuring, Zeros and Ones, Evangelion, and modern journalism.

this is actually really something. The NY Times stuff is bonkers.
As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

The first Bunnicula book was co-written by a quietly queer couple, long before the surviving author came out as gay, in attempt to keep the dying co-author as she passed, which is why it functions on so many levels and makes little attempt to ensure any other level gets a different level's jokes.

Grant Morrison recommending The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes recently has reminded me that it's a shame they never did a season dropping Holmes into the other detectives' mysteries to see if he'd solve them quicker or with different conclusions than they.

Can we circle back to the part where the NY Times never disclosed that they have incriminating information on Donald Trump from sent by Epstein that's been sitting on their email servers for nearly a decade?
Stuff like this makes me wonder why there hasn't been any reporting about Trump having affairs during his presidencies

Think of the academics and beloved writers who were enamored with Caryl Chessman and arguing he was just beyond basic social mores and not a manipulative rapist.
Really wild how all these Harvard scientists and mathematics guys constantly talked about how Jeffrey Epstein was this brilliant, "misunderstood" man and then you read his emails and he's clearly a barely literate lecher, extremely easy to understand

You can tell people The Complete Adelessa is a stealth attack on Louis CK if it gets my numbers up. It is a book about writing fiction without doing the research or knowing things, including Texas. And, it has the best heroin withdrawal scene you'll read this month if you buy and read it right now.
Saw people trying to defend Louis C.K. for admitting he didn’t do research for his book with “aren’t writers supposed to make things up?” No. If you write about a setting and world you don’t actually know you’re going to wind up writing the most clueless fiction ever.

This a flawed array of core audiences, but it's also a very useful array of core audiences. Fans just like a thing. Maniacs need physical media, physical & visible representation of the thing. Happy Victims live by the brand & branding. Otaku proselytize and collect experiences related to the thing.

The idea that there was a time or culture with no queers, no queerness, no homosexuality, no questioning gender is absurd, but an easy idea to accept the same way that over the course of about 12 years we got used to muscle-peak Arnold Schwarzenegger being a slightly fit normative American man.
