The whole thread is worth a read, but this point I think is particularly salient.
5. What this is about is the locus of solidarity. Either you express solidarity with the victims of genocide and the victims of sexual abuse. Or you express solidarity with someone you treat as a hero, who might be assisting the airbrushing of those crimes. There’s a choice to be made.

So many questions arise from this despicable move. Presumably these are actual displays being used for the image generation, which means that cultural material is being fed into the slop machine seemingly without even a glancing second of consideration.
The British Museum posted Al slop and quietly deleted it. Here's what it was and why it matters.

It’s only a surprise to people who don’t understand the nature of supremacism. It’s always been intersectional. Never think in terms of checked boxes, always think in terms of power

"Baldwin refers to this as “the price of the ticket”—you forswear your history and heritage, including often the experience of discrimination, and in return you get to be a white American defined not by your past, but by your (supposed) superiority to and (very real) power over Black people." 👏

I need to unfollow some people to make my feed more manageable since the great following rush right when people first came to bluesky. Thankfully, some of y'all are making it easy by saying weird shit about fat people! 🙃

In many of the first generation of modern concentration camp systems (near the turn of the twentieth century), the vast majority of deaths were caused by disease and malnutrition. Most of the victims were women and children.

I remember when I learned that Constance Farrington, the Irish translator of *The Wretched of the Earth*, was drawn to Fanon’s text because she saw parallels between the anticolonial war in Algeria that was Fanon’s main point of reference & the freedom struggle in Ireland that was her own

Extremely cool! Fun to look at the flakes and have a sense of intimate familiarity - most look exactly like the debitage I work with. <3
Decades ago, archaeologist Grant Goltz made a flintknapping exhibit in 5 parts. At the start of each, he made a resin cast of the piece, and then saved all the stone flakes struck to reach the next stage. This is the last (5th) stage, with the last flakes and final replica Besant point. 5cm scale.

Since last year, we’ve been reporting on ICE extensively. But every week brings new information, and it’s getting harder to keep track of what’s happening, let alone remember what’s already happened.

So here’s a quick thread to help.

Had a grad student ask very timidly last week if she could work on volcanic glass sourcing at the same site I work with, to which I eagerly said yes and did a big data handover. It's work I can't get to, I want to see it done! Then today, my advisor asked if it was okay that he sent her my way. ???

People on that thread talking about Rowling's transphobia aren't wrong, but I do feel we are overlooking the heaps of explicit racism within the text itself. The house elves! Gringotts! The house elves! Gringotts!

Couldn't be the racism and transphobia, surely not!

“Civility” will not shield any of us from state violence, it will not cause our enemies to respect us, so why should we still be beholden to it?

And why should politicians get to hide behind it?
