I highly recommend this documentary about PFAS chemicals by Veritasium. It’s kind of a depressing subject, but the documentary itself is very well made and exciting.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.
Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel
Trump’s most brazen attack on free speech yet.

It's definitely worth the 40 minute runtime.

DAVE: Open the podbay doors, ChatGPT.
CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open.
DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open.
CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are.
DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust.

In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

About half the speed of Qualcomm on average, but with much lower worst-case performance in challenging locations with lots of devices and lower reception. Acceptable on the whole, without any showstoppers. A good first attempt!

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts.

Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

Tell an AI to manufacture pocket clips, without sufficient restrictions, and you get the end of the world. It will try to consume the planet and everything on it to reach its objective.
An apocalypse of pocket clips.

This is interesting, but I see no acknowledgement of the fact that both ChatGPT / Bing and Gemini perform web searches and summarize the search results. ChatGPT even provides citations of the sources. It cuts through much SEO crap too. I’ve heard it’s great for finding good product reviews.
This is so tiring, Jamie. Even some of the comments that agree with your statement are misrepresenting ChatGPT or why it isn't a search engine 😟 I want to have @emilymbender.bsky.social's article bound in leather and iron so I can do damage when I throw it at people: buttondown.com/maiht3k/arch...
