For decades, I’ve been hammering the difference between spending & investing, especially in the context of wrong-headed austerity cutting. We do a bad job explaining how NOT spending on things that save money or have an established return-on-investment actually COSTS us money.

Carney gets that!

Strong leaders are not afraid of independent media.
CBC/Radio-Canada is a pillar of our Canadian identity.

We’re going to strengthen our public broadcaster with more long-term funding, and a modernized mandate — to deliver more local news and keep Canadians better informed during emergencies.

My grandma was a Biafra war survivor.

So it’s likely certain survival instincts for me are kicking in about our current situation.

But from her I learned it’s possible for things to be a little shaky for a while, and then one day all of a sudden, your world is gone, and you have to leave.

This is why you fight these cowards.

The moment you stand up to them, they crumble.

Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights.

He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

Nobody believes Canada will become the 51st state, but the relationship has changed. Canada should consider reorienting toward a sufficiency economy with a new social contract. “Enough, for everyone, forever.” lloydalter.substack.com/p/is-canada-...

This might be a good time to rebuild around a sufficiency economy.

What folks are getting a tough lesson in right now: Institutions are people. They are not abstract forces that exist as firewalls or safeguards. They are just people who play a role and who perhaps have abided by norms, but whose decisions minute to minute shape the role those institutions play.
