If driving is so freeing and convenient, why is every driver one nanosecond away from total rage meltdown?

I'd be very interested if anyone has resources on the impact cycling safety measures (lights, mirrors, choosing quiet routes, etc.) have on the cycling fatality rate.

A few days ago, I sold the car my girlfriend and I share. We're inheriting another from a family member in a week for the 5% of trips we can't do walking, biking, or on public transit.

But we haven't really noticed a difference. With better public transit, we wouldn't need a car at all.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

I hadn't intended this retweet to refer to His Royal Trumpness, but the timing today was perfect
Random sub-tweet. If your answer to mobility involves keeping poor/rural people dependent on buying cars and putting fuel in them, you're working for global Capital, not poor/rural people

REMINDER: Those choosing to live in subsidized suburbs for a bigger house and yard are NOT also entitled to free-flow car traffic capacity (aka an “easy car commute”) into the city at the expense of the taxes, health, safety (hint: bike-lanes) & quality of life of city-dwellers.

My girlfriend and I share a car and walk/bike to nearly all destinations within 10 miles of home.

After seeing how much money this saves us year after year, I wonder how much money is siphoned out of our community by car dependency.

hey question, is this bad?

So two significant plane crashes in a week under this administration, and we're really trusting flying robotaxis to be properly regulated with a gutted government?

really love how advocates for safer cycling and pedestrian infrastructure are radicals but people who want to drive fast & park wherever they want (at the risk of everyone else) are just normal reasonable humans

So OpenAI is claiming that DeepSeek harvested data from their model to train its competitor. I'm not an expert, but that certainly sounds like what they did to everyone else's data on the internet.

I guess intellectual property theft is only cool if you're the one doing it.

I realize now that I have a “trade deficit” with the store across the street. I walked over and bought a jug of milk. The store is abusing me and I’m tired of subsidizing it by buying something at a fair price that I want. I’m going to apply a tariff that will raise the future price of milk for me.

Sometimes I get so frustrated with how hostile the US is to anyone outside a vehicle that I consider just driving too.

Then I remember the many people who don't have the option to just drive and that cycling, walking, and taking transit is a way of rebelling against a system that disregards them

The hard truth about the consequences of the #ClimateCrisis — wildfires, floods, storms, droughts, heat waves and more — won’t come from climate activists who are too easily ignored or even vilified. It will come from central banks. And insurance companies. And every rational evidence-based sector.
