I would not have believed it possible 20 years ago that I would come to despise the BBC for its cowardly surrender to the far right but here we are.
Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

Deeply disappointed to hear that the BBC has pushed out one of the most brilliant presenters in all of science communication for speaking with integrity and honor in support of human rights and dignity.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

What you’re doing right now is what you would’ve been doing in 1930s Germany. I apparently would’ve been having a panic attack, fearing for the people I love, and hating that I still have to worry about paying my bills. Worrying about paperwork while concentration camps get built is fucked up.

It's a good morning to piss off racists so I've released a video I've had on my mind for a while about "Legitimate Concerns" and how there aren't really any and anyone who cares about immigration is either a racist or a liar. youtu.be/fpImnWNOM2Y

And it’s absolutely vile & hugely offensive
If you thought the PM’s speech was punchy, his foreword to the immigration white paper says high net migration has done “incalculable damage” to the country.

That is a serious shift in tone for a Labour government/party.

“Island of strangers” makes me think of “citizens of nowhere”
Keir Starmer says immigration system is “almost designed to permit abuse” and that it risks “pulling the country apart”.

PM says UK needs tougher rules to reduce immigration significantly or it risks becoming “an island of strangers”.

Science break.
This kayaker gets approached by an otter every time he visits a lake. The otter was orphaned after the mother was in an accident, and the man helped it throughout it's rehabilitation process to later release it back into the wild. Volume up.🔊

This is my feeling, too. Europe and Asia could reset trade and supply chains in ways that speed up electrification, partly out of security concerns about reliance on foreign ff such as US LNG or Russia
China, which relies heavily on exports, could start to push its cheap and cleaner electrotech into other markets, especially developing countries. That would be good for climate action.

Mad economic history tidbit amid current relatively minor market turmoil: the Dow Jones took *25* years to return to its 1929 peak after the Wall Street Crash. Finally recovered a quarter century later in November 1954.
