Avian influenza (bird flu) still hitting Whooper Swans in Fens around Welney and Ouse Washes. Six dead or ill birds on this one farm, the sick ones too ill to move when approached, constantly shaking their heads. All the way from Iceland to die in a Cambridgeshire field. #ornithology #ukbirding

Just had enough time to dash to Lancashire to see the returning Bewick's Swans at Thurnham. When I saw them in February they were a mile out amongst 400+ Whoopers, but today they were close in and happily grazing. Reduced to tiny numbers, these are now the only two present. #ukbirding #birds

I wonder if I should add a Caspian Gull to my list? Bizarrely all I have to do is to go Gorton Recycling Depot which is within my extended patch.
This reminds me of the days when sewage farms were not lock away.
