Absolutely! Let's keep building the bridge!
A7 #elemmathchat An Ellin Keene connection is through comprehension. Both literacy and math are about making sense. They're more connected than not!

A7 follow up...nice to think about literacy and math units that are launching at the same time...could there be a collaborative "kick off" ?
A7 #ElemMathChat

More read-alouds in classes. Using picture books to launch a new unit in math...
Being really intentional with students about all the connections between math and reading - predict, reflect, connect, visualize

Q7 #ElemMathChat - Final Question

What math & literacy connections are on your mind?

What connections might you foster in the next week? How?

Thinking a bit about the similar structures or routines in both math & literacy content blocks. Student voices, executive functioning supports, engagement, organization…

So many picture books come to mind. I have recently been finding more chapter books with math connections. Love the Math Investigator Series by Daniel Kenney. We just added these books to our shared book closet collection.

A1: This. We often used "movie in your mind" to see reading and writing. Started using it for word problems. Also, we tout revising when reading and writing. Revising math answers should be just as common. #ElemMathChat
A1 Also sense-making, visualizing what is going on...pictures in my mind. Predicting and connecting! #ElemMathChat

I have experienced the joint conference for elementary literacy and math via NCTE and NCTM. Amazing space for math and literacy folks to puzzle, write, think, and chat about all things math, literacy, identity, and joy!

Lots of organized pickles.
I see rows/groups of 4 and 3.
Empty space in the middle.
Empty spaces in the corners.
The Jar is slightly open.
Are they crunchy dill?
