Utah House Minority Leader Angela Romero with an EPIC quote when I asked if she wants to run for the new congressional seat: “Why the f— would I want to be part of that s— show when I’m already in this s— show?!?!”

She’s not running, for the record. She added: “I do love this s— show.” #utpol #Utah

To solve this problem, there are things individual students need to do & there are things higher education & society need to do. The latter two need to decrease the pressures placed on students' time, increase the value & meaning of what they teach, & emphasize long-term learning not punishments.

I agree that in many cases GenAI is best used as a support for an expert human, rather than trusting GenAI to act autonomously. Sanna Järvelä's and Andy Nguyen's (among others) work on Human-AI collaboration would productively deepen these authors' work. #PsychSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky

AI can be used to automate tasks—and entire jobs. But it could also be designed to collaborate with humans. David Autor and James Manyika on why we should focus on the latter:

The other day I drew a subway-style map for The Hobbit, and it was very well received. Some of you asked if I could do one for LoTR, so I have!

Forgive the eel watermark; I'm working on making these something you can buy, if you like.

The risk of dying from COVID is 3 in 1,000
The risk of dying from flu is 1 in 10,000.

Yes, everything has a risk. But vaccines are one of the SAFEST things out there. And even serious adverse events after vaccination are almost always treatable.

AND they save lives & improve healthough.

Vaccines save 2-3 million lives every year.
They are incredibly safe.

The risk of a serious adverse event after vaccination is ~1 in 1,000,000.

Context:
The risk of dying in a car crash: 1 in 100.
The risk of peanut allergy: 1 in 200,000.
The risk of dying from choking on food is 1 in 2500.

Utah Senator Mike Lee has been in the news a lot recently, and many have fixated on his radicalization in recent years. In this youtube video I trace how Mike Lee is the product of two cultural forces: a longstanding right-wing extremism within Mormonism and the more recent MAGA-fication of the GOP.

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.
I have two sons, and I don't think I've ever seen messaging going "Don't be a boy" or "YOU'RE BAD."

Sure looks like that's in "I heard someone say that they heard..." territory, rather than actual direct experience.

Also worth noting, the main message from manosphere influencers is "YOU'RE BAD."
It's a brutal time for young men, and to be raising one. The primary message they now is get is "YOU'RE BAD" without any meaningful attempt to offer healthy pathways beyond "Don't be a boy."

Absolutely perfect time for right wing monsters to sweep in with shitty answers.
