so many people don’t realise that as well as being queen of horror shirley jackson was actually an incredibly funny writer, and dropping the bloviating or the surreally-pompous into a tense scene was one of her regular sly techniques! i love her so much

heard J upstairs on the phone say ‘you aren’t near a defibrillator are you?’ & i thought ‘oh god one of his elderly parents has collapsed’ & started mentally prepping how we’d help- until a moment later he said ‘i’m out of gear’ & i realised he’s playing a videogame with his friends 😤

i was absolutely devastated to read this today. Alice was one of the first disability activists i ever followed on twitter when I was first sick & didn’t know what was happening to me. I learnt so much from her work, & when I wanted to set up my UK disability podcast (In Visibility Today)-
