Army Officer, Nuclear Engineer (school trained but not licensed), Interests include defense, national security, nuclear energy, trade, the economy, and trying to learn the piano in my 40's. Beat Navy!
What also occurred during these decades wis the US operated the world's largest and highest capacity factor LWR fleet while concern for climate change and energy security and diversity increased.

But sure, propaganda.
The extraordinary elite propaganda effort on behalf of nuclear power has worked: public support for nuclear power is at record highs.

This took place during a period in which the only nuclear plant built in the US is 10s of billions over budget. Pretty impressive.
Nuclear Energy Support Near Record High in U.S.
Americans support nuclear energy and offer mixed views on fracking and offshore drilling, while a diminished majority prefer renewable energy development over more fossil fuel production.

Two of the most pressing issues facing Americans today are the ridiculous and still rising price of housing and the rising costs of energy in the US. When people say an abundance agenda that wants to address these pressing needs has "no electoral constituency worth fighting for" they're just obtuse.

The Supreme Court gets alot of flak recently, much of it deserved, but the unanimous decision released yesterday to limit NEPA is a fabulous decision for America. Very excited to see work to limit lawfare and help get America back to building.

The party has clearly learned nothing. Sigh.

Dems just lost an election to a deeply unpopular man, and it wasn’t because they didn’t say enough strong things about climate change.

Interesting seeing the complaints from "the groups" about Maryland trying to get its energy issues fixed by easing path to nuclear deployment. Didn't the capacity payment prices in MD show us the need to firm capacity?

Been learning my first classical piece for the piano, and I’m getting more and more excited as I’m able to play through more and more sections of it correctly. Not tiring of it at all, only happier to see better results. Makes me want to play more and more. Then wife says no😂

When one needs "sources" to tell you what "the Board" wants, then your company has a serious problem with telling your story and establishing a narrative. And when you can't write your own story, someone else will do it for you. Odds are the narrative they write won't be one you like either.
TVA is a big bureaucracy. That's unavoidable. But blaming *the Board* for lack of new nuclear progress is dead wrong. My sources tell me (Biden appointees on) Board absolutely have wanted AP1000 for some time, for ex.

What GOP probably now wants is to eliminate TVA Board's independent oversight. 2/

Guess where elections are won or lost? That's right, on the margins, in swing states!

Pretty clear that Dems losing margins among their core groups of young people and minorities is not a recipe for success. So yea, moderate and win the margins!
2) "It's not about ideology, it's about competence."

There's a lot of debate right now about whether Dems should moderate as a party (my read on the literature: moderation may help a little bit on the margins in some cases, depending on how you measure ideology, but only a little)

So now the US is telling Iran they have to get rid of their entire nuclear program. Enrichment, reactors, the whole thing.

What even is the NPT?

It's wild to see so much talk (well justified talk IMHO) about countries seeking their own nuclear deterrent because the US is no longer a dependable ally. Here's one example. But these recent developments show how wrong many in the non-pro community have been about nuclear energy and fuel cycle.🧵

Interesting developments.
March 4, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Not gonna lie, today just makes me very, very sad. I hate this feeling.
March 1, 2025 at 3:13 AM
I suspect there are a number of countries deciding they need to start figuring out how to build for themselves a nuclear deterrent.

I for one don’t blame them. Shame its going this direction.

I can’t imagine knowing that the world just set a peak emissions record in 2024 as well as a coal consumption record and then saying “the fossil fuel age is over.” Incredible.
"The fossil fuel age is over – it’s time to electrify the United Kingdom" 👍
The UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget level should be set at 535 MtCO2e, an 87% reduction against 1990 levels.

This country has a prosperous and secure future ahead.

The fossil fuel age is over – it’s time to electrify the United Kingdom.

Happy #WorldWhaleDay. Did you know that the Churchill River where it empties into Hudson Bay is home to about 3000 beluga whales. They breed and feed on the abundant capelin in the river. 🌿🦊🦑

Your regular reminder that if you want nuclear new builds to be successful, you need to stop considering the French to build it. Embarrassing performance at every attempt.

This is most certainly true. It also skips over the impact that resources have on each other and the challenge of keeping and strengthening that "good portfolio of resources." A few thoughts 🧵
The power system remains reliable when a good portfolio of resources all play their correct role on the grid.

You don’t reason with a bully. You kick them in the junk, jack up their face, break their ride, and let them know you’ll do worse next time they decide to FAFO.
This is the correct strategy. Make it hurt at every level. Discourage tourism to the US, block access to critical minerals, restrict road access to Alaska, 400% tariffs on Tesla products, restrict access to energy. In short, squeeze and squeeze hard till the tariffs are lifted.
Canada's retaliation:

4) Not just trade: this is not a standard trade war; it's just bullyism. Not tit for tat or dollar for dollar tariffs. Those are 3-word slogans. Think broader than trade.

Hit them *hard* but strategically. Uranium? Germanium? Alaska access? Tesla? Put it all on the table.

New England can’t build offshore wind, don’t build gas pipelines, and now can’t depend on electricity imports from Canada. Time for them to get serious about their energy policy.
