Haven’t seen or read Fox News or any far right programming since the George Floyd protests, when I had to watch four news feeds nightly to provide rollups for senior leaders on the Joint Staff. So no, it’s a reasonable take from an observer of statistics and happenings in Latin America.

Biden was a deeply unpopular President. That’s not vibes, actual pollls. Seems sensible that having a candidate that can separate themselves in some way from some of the more unpopular Admin policies seems reasonable? Or is losing fun and we want more of it?
August 17, 2025 at 10:48 PM
“We needed someone who was distanced enough from the admin to give voters a fresh choice”

100% correct.
August 17, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Yes, odds were already difficult for incumbents. Biden was unpopular, and the switcharoo after the primaries was a bad look. Combined with unpopular social stances and the mess at the border and it just wasn’t going to happen.

So earthquakes are caused by climate change now?

Some STEM people might call this a “positive feedback loop”

Why not just cite the data center where water is plentiful? If we withdraw some water from Lake Erie, anyone going to miss it? That’s why we have environmental review, to cite infrastructure in good locations. Zero consumption is the wrong target.
July 20, 2025 at 6:45 PM
70% of the earth’s surface is covered by water, surely we can find some somewhere that we can use for a data center?

The Challenger explosion.

You realize that none of the Plutonium in US nuclear weapons came from power reactors, right? Plutonium production has always been separate from power production in the United States.

This is a channel that I find to have some really wonderful transit content if you’re interested.

Should Public Transit be Free?

There are some really great transit oriented YouTube and X/Bluesky feeds that have gone into some real detail on this topic, and their real-world examples I find pretty enlightening.
July 9, 2025 at 10:20 AM
Few transit systems are 100% funded by ridership and associated income streams, so some government funding should be expected. But if govt funds are cut significantly, like in Chicago and Philly now, those cuts are less harmful if there are other stable revenue sources.
July 9, 2025 at 10:18 AM
The more compelling argument for paying for transit is that partially funded operations thru rider revenue leaves the transit agency less vulnerable to massive service curtailment if the govt doesn’t want to fund. Especially vulnerable during economic downturns.

Hard to see how nuclear plants built now wouldn’t be helpful in 2050.
July 6, 2025 at 2:31 PM
So the entire world is going to be net zero by 2035, is that what you’re saying?

Ain’t somebody special?

There are no “green energy saviors.” A low emissions, highly reliable and economic system is going to be a diverse mix of technologies. Closing Indian Point was an own goal by the state that just wasn’t necessary.
June 23, 2025 at 4:41 AM
The economics of the plant looked bad going forward because the state was requiring them to build massive cooling towers instead of using their once through cooling systems. They chose to close instead of building the towers. Was still profitable without the state getting involved.
June 22, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Except Indian point did make a profit? It was the only plant that didn’t receive the ZECs when the plants were struggling, and it didn’t need it because it was selling into the NYC market, where prices are higher.
June 22, 2025 at 3:51 PM
yep, not helpful

If there’s a hole in the roof they aren’t reusing the facility. Defeats the whole purpose of digging it into the mountain in the first place.
June 15, 2025 at 11:07 AM
"And they say the grid manager is paying existing power plants too much to supply electricity to their states"

I thought capacity payments were determined by a market approach? This seems rather off base.
