This would be a good day to read about the multiple political orders in New York City. Chapter three looks at the egalitarian order, which appears to have the initiative for a change.

At just 34 years old, Zohran Mamdani culminated a meteoric political rise Tuesday by scoring a decisive victory in a polarizing mayoral election.

He will become the youngest mayor in over a century, the first Muslim to lead New York City.

I have calculated a set of county-level benchmarks for following the statewide elections in VA, NJ, GA and PA tonight. This is smarter than just watching votes roll in because it helps account for unreported areas. Will update the spreadsheet as votes come in. Link: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

While the housing cost burden is easing overall, it’s not the case for lower-income renters, the authors write.

The combination of the shutdown and the Trump tax cut bill’s measures coming into effect highlights the fact that the welfare state is essential to the survival for tens of millions because the American political economy systematically fails to produce adequate income, healthcare, and housing.

The thing that has historically split the working class has been white supremacy. It was inter-racial fusionism that Jim Crow was created to defeat.

Also, the very places where organizing is now strongest, eg NYC, are where the laborforce is the most diverse.

As usual, Vance is talking nonsense.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

The increases are insane, but so were the premiums before. The US healthcare system, even after the ACA, is rotten to the core. Premiums should be thought of as a tax.
Sticker shock for ACA recipients:

Clint and Cindy Kittrell, Oregon: $305/month --> $2,500/month.

Chad and Tara Smith, Idaho: $710/month --> $1,000/month.

Jessica Bunger, Florida: New premiums quadruple to $1,100/month. "I’ve never felt so powerless in my life"
