This is not a sign that Ukraine is winning the land war, but its an important sign that the doom laden narrative (ukraine has "no cards" Ukraine will collapse) is wrong. Watch out, this narrative is being used to try and convince Europeans that Ukraine must take a terrible deal.

ICE snatched a human rights hero.

Guan Heng risked his life to capture video of Uyghur concentration camps. After escaping to the U.S., Guan was in hiding for years, not knowing his work had been crucial to substantiating China's mass detention practices.

On Monday, he has an asylum hearing in NY.

I always find it interesting how the story changes when a lawyer gets to court. They can say anything they want outside of court without accountability but the rules are vastly different in court where you can get seriously penalized for lying.

A new paper led by Cody Warner at Berkeley shows that utilities can mitigate wildfire risk much more quickly and cheaply by using dynamic grid management (such as fast-trip switches that very quickly de-energize power lines in response to faults) than by trimming trees or undergrounding lines.
Dynamic grid management reduces wildfire adaptation costs in the electric power sector - Nature Climate Change
Extreme events are increasingly becoming severe risks to the electric grid, yet there is limited understanding of the cost-effectiveness of adaptation investments. This research demonstrates that dynamic grid management could reduce large capital spending and limit wildfire risks in the USA.
