This is why I still think that the internet, not the issues, are the root cause of this culture war. People (including journalists…who are people) imagine the loudest, angriest positions as default positions because those are the ones that get eyeballs in an ultra-competitive attention economy.

A male American Kestrel perched on a tree branch. The bird has a white head with a blue cap and dark streaks extending down over its yellow eyes and as faux sideburns. Its short beak is yellow at the base and around the nostrils and black toward its sharp, curved tip. The bird has a tan back with black spots, blue wings with black spots, and a clean tan breast that fades to white with black spots at the belly. Its talons are yellow and tail feathers, which can be seen just behind the branch, are light with black spots. The background is an out-of-focus tree trunk and blue sky.
