One of my favorite scenes in Babylon-5 is when Delenn and Sheridan are in the war room discussing attacks on refugee ships and Sheridan suggest a possible attack b the enemy might make, saying
“it’s what I’d do, if I were them”

Babylon 5 really strikes a unique balance between using classic aliens of the week and still giving them a more rounded portrayal than just one hat per planet. All the League species feel so much more complex than they would in any other show.

I love how much Babylon 5 embodies the "horribly crime ridden cespool of moral decay overrun by aliens" that big cities often get labeled as by conservatives, only to showcase also how multicultural melting pots are the only places that can facilitate the kinds of connection the world needs. 1/2

It's fascinating how much time Babylon 5 spends deconstructing Minbari religion, exposing corrupt institutions, how its used to justify harmful actions and ideas, and the horror of mixing zealousness and military.

With the Shadows, Babylon 5 does the "unknowable cosmic-horror" really well. But once Ivanova and Marcus go looking for the first ones, we quickly learn that some of that Grand Unknown is not as impenetrable as it seems.
The grounding of the First Ones is such an interesting move for this show!

Back on Babylon 5 season 3 and Julie Musante is a force of terrifying and realistic evil but the actress playing her hits it out of the park. Great (awful) character and a stellar performance. Every line just drips with self assured venom and her trying to seduce Sheridan was hilarious

Babylon 5s pioneering of serialized storytelling is always worth celebrating.
But I wouldn't want to judge episodes or B-plots by how much they contribute to the overall story.
Modern streaming shows have taught me that big settings need space to breathe and explore standalone themes as well.
