Argentière Glacier front
June 2025

Overview of a dying (former) ice front of one of major Alpine glaciers during last June crazy heatwave! 🧊🔥

The dead ice lowest point is ~1650 m and the ice cliff at the background - which hardly feeds it anymore - is ~2200 m asl 😨

The inevitable final step of a dying party… electorally, ideologically, and morally.
French conservatives are inching towards a pact with Le Pen that could enable a far-right takeover of the country | Paul Taylor
In trying to woo Le Pen’s voters, Les Républicains risk destroying France’s Gaullist legacy and putting Paris on a collision course with the EU, says Paul Taylor of the European Policy Centre

Some thoughts on the racist 'protests' in the UK

We must challenge the mainstream narrative that 'the people' with 'legitimate concerns' are to be found amongst a handful of racists, while the many more fighting for a better future are ignored

But I think this is a bad idea. When speaking *as* *experts* (which is what our professional organizations do), we need to limit ourselves to our expertise

Academia trains us to write for journals, not the public.
Clarity feels risky, because it exposes us.

But clear communication is essential for democracy.
So how do we do it?

NEW RESEARCH about Bluesky on Bluesky:
pewrsr.ch/4mDKCrx

- 43% of the news influencers we studied last year are now on Bluesky - but most are also on X (Twitter)
- 69% of left-leaning influencers; 15% of right-leaning ones
- rate of posting increased in 2025
Bluesky has caught on with many news influencers, but X remains popular
The share of news influencers in our sample with a Bluesky account roughly doubled in the four months after Election Day 2024, from 21% beforehand to 43% by March.
