I didn’t expect this post to make it to the front page of HN, but Helix sure is pleasant to use 🧬

I used to think Kubernetes was complex machinery solving scalability problems I would never have. I was wrong.

Kubernetes has less moving parts than my handmade deployments and is sturdier than my hand written playbooks.

Kubernetes is not just for Black Friday
I self-host services mostly for myself. My threat model is particular: the highest threats I face are my own incompetence and hardware failures. To mitigate those risks used to rely on podman containe...

I wanted to move my services from a costly VPS to a Raspberry Pi in my living room.

But when moving the first 2.8 GB the Raspberry Pi announced a migration time in hundreds of days!

Follow me as I investigate why and if I can do anything about it.

Why is my Raspberry Pi 4 too slow as a server?
I self-host services on a beefy server in a datacenter. Every night, Kopia performs a backup of my volumes and sends the result to a s3 bucket in Scaleway's Parisian datacenter. The VPS is expensive, ...

I didn't think I would ever find a useful personal growth book, but Deep Work was different. I expected a grind mindset book, and I've found one that makes a case for undistracted work, backed by science.

A helpful tool in my quest to reclaim focus!

Deep Work reconciled me with personal growth books
I'm usually not a huge fan of personal growth books. I think most books of this genre are 300 pages long when all the content would fit on 20. I read _Deep Work_ by Cal Newport, with an open but…

I’m sorry. You can all be mad at journalists for this or whatever. And maybe in some cases it’s deserved. But this is a high-risk profession that’s dying. There’s little support for most working journalists who still have jobs.

When you blame “the media,” blame executives. Not workers.
