I generally look at registrar who have well documented and open APIs, supported by projects like OpenTofu annd External DNS.
Since I self host a few services it makes my life easier than having to fiddle with DNS records manually.

I’m using Cloudflare out of convenience, but the political climate in the US makes me consider out-of-US alternatives like Infomaniak.
