For our v1.0 release, @discord.com has pulled the open source version back internally and is running 100% of their production traffic through Osprey while @safety.bsky.app has been running it in production since v0.1. @matrix.org is getting ready for their own Osprey deployment.

We're starting to see the first results of the hackathon! Florian here is building a Rust bot that talks to Christian's receipt printer, and makes it print what they send to a room.

Prototypes are taking form, keep up the good work everyone!

A great feature when using Matrix: there's a setting that only allows users who you have manually verified (preferably face to face, scanning each other's QR codes) to see your encrypted messages in a group chat. Way to go @matrix.org!

This @fosdem.org talk about @matrix.org history is quite relevant today. EU organizations and companies being forced to take their tech sovereignty seriously is an opportunity to adopt shared OSS solutions. But it is hard for EU programs to distribute the money to reach the right upstream hands.

There is a simple answer: - Commercial Matrix deployments should mandate that the upstream project is funded, by buying the upstream's product. - "Pay for what you use, to keep it free" - Only buy from vendors who fund upstream maintenance. - Normalise paying for open source products, much as folks pay for propietrary ones. - If the upstream product isn't suitable, then switch upstream. - This is true Public Money For Public Code. - Some folks who get it right: Zen DiS! Sweden! UK, US, and NATO!
