I see that someone whose contribution to the political discourse is a book on ‘weird MPs’ and a book on Westminster gossip is now decrying the ‘raging anti-intellectualism’ of the British press.

Quite remarkable that Dan Hannan (of all people) gets closer than I’ve seen anyone else in the British media has done to acknowledging the fact that Britain is at war with Russia in Ukraine. The British right is very pro-Ukraine, sharp contrast with the Yanks.

This ‘peace plan’ is not only a tragedy for Ukraine, but an immediate crisis for Britain

Wonderful exhibition about dreams at @bethlemmuseum.bsky.social … highly recommended, some fascinating pictures. I particularly liked the drawing by William Kurelek. Well worth the (long) journey from central London.

I honestly find it wild that our brains require us to be unconscious for ~1/3 of our lives. Like, what are you DOING while we’re out of it?! 🧐
There is so much pressure not to be "lazy" that we are hurting ourselves for some nebulous goal of "being active" and I hate it so fucking much. Sleep is necessary. Sleep is good. It is not an indulgence or laziness or anything negative. You do not need to "earn" sleep.

It’s not just engaging in far-right talking points, it’s not having your own explanation for voters about why they are experiencing what they’re experiencing in their lives. Deeply irresponsible, deeply unprincipled. Why go into politics if you can’t even answer that question for yourself?
Deep breath, once more for those at the back, seeking asylum is not illegal. No matter route used, which considering Labour has closed pretty much all the last remaining alternatives means irregular ones.
Anti-immigration sentiments are stoked by politicians like Mahmood, not people seeking safety.

There are actually more being let off tonight than there have been for the last couple of weekends. It’s getting absolutely ridiculous.
Knob off with the fireworks, you cunts.

(Yes I will say the same when it’s ’bonfire night’ etc. The sale of fireworks should be heavily regulated & restricted to council-licensed displays only).

I was in the vets today and while I was waiting, 4 dog owners came in to ask for help. Poor animals.

Just been reading about how the scale of death in WWI was a factor in the dearth of political talent in the 1920s and 30s (Arthur Marwick) and thinking about how both the Tories and Labour purging themselves in the last decade has had much the same result, only in a very self-inflicted way.

Can someone please tell these twats that I would far rather pay a bit more income tax than have my employer significantly cut its contribution to my pension, which is what is now going to happen.

Tick tock tick tock. Yes, having a resignation drama and then a new chancellor and wasting another six months or so sounds ideal at this point, let’s do that.

Ben Tillett published ‘Is The Parliamentary Labour Party A Failure?’ in 1908 - two years after the formation of the Parliamentary Labour Party. In many ways things haven’t moved on much since then.

Reeves won't get the Louise Haigh or Angela Rayner treatment because none of this is about being a stickler for the rules. The rules for MPs are there so when you want to get rid of someone, you can find a rule they've broken.
She didn't get the licence *she* had campaigned for, championed and overseen as MP in her own goddamn constituency.

Not only venal and corrupt, but utterly utterly moronic. A whole Senate of horses.

I cannot believe we are even talking about deporting hundreds of ‘000s of people. It is BAIT, ffs. The media needs to wake up & realise they have a choice here. Stop reporting this stuff and it WON’T be ‘the issue of the moment’. It’s only on everyone’s lips because YOU ARE TAKING IT SERIOUSLY!
September 24, 2025 at 4:14 PM
The main reason for this is social media, btw. Am just reflecting on the fact that there are pros as well as the very obvious and myriad cons.
When I was protesting against the Iraq war, I was baffled that the majority of people just couldn’t see why. With Gaza, it feels so different - to stand with the opinion of the majority, to be in the norm. The political repercussions are going to be massive. There has never been such dissonance >
