my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

@npr.org mentioned just today how Trump was "unhappy" with Israel bombing Hamas officials in Doha, capital of Qatar, the US ally hosting mediation talks put on by the US, but 1) no mention of what he plans to DO ABOUT IT.

Words/phrases Democrats should never use:

* bipartisan
* my Republican friends
* real, valid, legitimate, serious, important (to describe issue raised by Republicans)
* yea (when voting on Republican bills)
* distraction (to describe bad thing Republicans did)
* woke (in derogatory sense)

Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani’s pledge is raising alarms as bankers refuse to finance regulated buildings where costs outstrip income.

Paramount just paid Trump a bribe for merger approval. When Democrats retake power, I’ll be first in line calling for federal charges. In the meantime, state prosecutors should make the corporate execs who sold out our democracy answer in court, today.

Like when they are completely neutral regarding Trump's blatant corruption being a benefit for Middle East relationships, relative to Biden. Thanks, NPR! www.npr.org/transcripts/...

Exactly. By this definition, it's only corruption if Trump explicitly says, "thank you for this plane, I will now favor you with _." What if he's already given them something we don't know about???
This comes very close to suggesting that corruption is only corruption if it's self-reported. I'm not sure even a defense lawyer would make that argument.

Basically, when conservatives have found being anti-science to be politically expedient and made it a defining characteristic, you can't take their arguments of viewpoint diversity in good faith, especially given their other central tenet of perpetual victimhood.
When Republicans take power do they expand "viewpoint diversity"? No. They purge scientists, delete data and promote their own mediocre minds. If you support Trump you are signaling membership in a movement that *hates* science, science is not obligated to pretend otherwise.

Well said.
The call for 'view point diversity' is just a smoke screen for ejecting and rejecting all the work done on racism, sexism, homophobia etc.
If they truly believed in VPD they would be welcoming people from across the world to share their view points.

anyway as always if you want to read books by a British author who isn’t a raging bigot there’s Terry Pratchett’s Discworld

I wrote a thread about it and everything

*or, why should I read this thing that everyone keeps going on about?

Come on in, sit down, pull up a chair. If you have followup questions, feel free to ask me or @ankhmorporkcity.watch, we're always happy to help.

Had a serious talk with my dad in 2020 and it just resulted in my cutting him out of my life. Frankly I'm better off, but there was no convincing him.
i think about all the people that have friends and family who voted for trump but were unwilling to make things uncomfortable and i just wonder if those relationships are worth all this

People hate Matt. I don't really, even though I vehemently disagree with much of what he proposes (most importantly the trans stuff).

The core of the difference is Matt's intense econ brain applied to politics, which is perhaps the biggest problem Dems have at the moment.

Trump is threatening violence against his opponents and is in the process of purging the security services.

I think it’s a terrifying moment.

I wish it repulsed 65% of voters rather than 45%.

But we’re in the real world and we need the biggest tent possible.
