I have just left a lengthy Pubpeer comment on the autism/Tylenol study being cited by the Trump administration. There appear to be a number of fairly straightforward errors in the paper.

I don't doubt that professors disliked the negative attention, but the attacks on Guyatt are absurd. He is a true moderate.
I'm reading Jesse Singal's analysis of the whole Guyatt/SEGM thing and it's fascinating to see. Much of it completely misunderstands Guyatt's argument, but also some of it is really bizarre.

Guyatt actually denied being scared. Frankly, it makes sense - he's one of the top 100 scientists in the world, he can pretty much do whatever he wants. In his own words, "I feel completely invulnerable".

The godfather of EBM has published an interesting letter with colleagues from university
This is significant. The authors of the systematic reviews from McMasters say SEGM is misusing their work and make clear their review does not justify banning gender affirming medical care for minors.

'Will Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy Give Me Deep Vein Thrombosis?'

A Swedish study is being weaponized in Britain to justify restricting hormone therapy for transgender women due to DVT risks, but the evidence is less persuasive.

Why did you guys ignore my request for correction on your recent article on the Trump HHS Review about gender dysphoria? Your article negligently failed even to mention the severe risk of bias that not using GRADE introduced to the subject. Not including this information misleads readers.
June 3, 2025 at 8:17 PM
The lack of following GRADE is discrediting. As well as narrativizing and selective interpretation of evidence. As Gordon Guyatt wisely pointed out in mother Jones. Much of the opining in the "review" is basically spitballing to fit a convenient narrative.

Guyatt consistently gives the most even handed quotations regarding GAC in all recent publications I've seen which interview him.
Gordon Guyatt, a professor of medicine and expert in research methods at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, said the discussion of ethical issues was “unbalanced" and "raised questions" about the influence of the administration on the report.

Retraction of RCTs (because they were at best flawed & at worst fraudulent) leads to substantial changes in evidence syntheses (systematic reviews and meta-analyses). How many more crap RCTs are lurking? Time to stop hero-worshipping this design. GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT.

Hern, one of the few physicians who openly perform late abortions, has been receiving death threats since 1973. He thinks women are worse off today than they were back then.

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory.

Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

I genuinely appreciate peer reviewers of grants and papers. So many have made my studies vastly better. But please please can we ban "why do you need a control group?" as feedback for an RCT? It will help me to maintain my tenuous hold on sanity in these difficult times.

As a decentralized platform, @bsky.app is probably the last, best chance for this to happen

It has everything to do with what the 1.2m @bsky.app users do.

Is it worth 20 MINS a day to proactively recruit and bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, businesses, anyone who is or could be a user, to @bsky.app?

If Bluesky ends up with more users than the others, you destabilize musk, zuck, trump.
