This forum and AMA is open!

Please share your experiences with medicaid and how this program helped you or a loved one. We need improvements to medicaid not gutting it and kicking people off.
Tomorrow, Monday June 30 AltGov and AltFam will be hosting a special AMA Forum with a special guest, @deathinalibrary.bsky.social.

Join us for a discussion about how Medicaid has impacted you and to ask questions.

Together on this thread, we can collaborate on why we need to save Medicaid.

Anyone can unionize. The first step is always the same: talk to your coworkers, find out what issues you have in common, and discuss the fact that when you come together as a group you can solve problems impossible to deal with when you’re alone.

Protest outside the Western Governors Association conference in Santa Fe going on right now.

Protestors are chanting "Not for sale"

This is in opposition to Mike Lee's attempt to sell off up to 3 million acres of national public lands.

The math isn't mathing:

☑️ 560 days since we unionized.
☑️ 398 days since bargaining began.
❌ no fair contract

Appropriately compensating your workers doesn’t require calculus, @society4science.bsky.social. The solution is simple: a fair contract.

New, from me:
The DOGE project was sold as tech disruptors who would revolutionize government. To try to understand why DOGE has failed, I point to lessons that other technologists who worked in government learned, but DOGE ignored. 🧵

Wrote this piece after one DOGEr gave an interview where he admitted his preconceptions about government were wrong. Public servants really care about public service! There is not that much waste in government! There are too many meetings and decisionmaking is too slow! Indeed, sir! All true!

Now, most DOGEr's are not admitting they were wrong about government, but some of their bad assumptions about tech in govt are not new, and were held by civic tech folks (who had very different motivations). One of these assumptions is an emphasis on transparency as a cure-all.

The idea that transparency, via open source and code, would solve tech problems misunderstands how tech in govt works. People working in civic tech learned this lesson a decade ago. DOGE is not interested in learning it.
