#newreview of #Leech by Hiron Ennes. I found the first half of the book pretty compelling, but I was ultimately a bit disappointed by the ending. The author opened up some interesting conversations about this sub-genre, but they relied on a cliche ending. {🩸🪐📚}

Samantha Baugus's review of Leech
3/5: I am of two minds about Leech. On the one hand, the book explores some classic horror/sci-fi tropes (body-snatching, hive mind, and contagion) from a different perspective; Ennes studies infectio...

#currentlyreading Leech by Hiron Ennes and what an absolutely WILD read thus far. Very creepy and weird. I’m a big fan of body horror and this is a fascinating take on that. It’s also an interesting blend of different genre conventions. {📚💙🩸🪐}

I recently alphabetized by entire library by author's last name, and I have books by authors from every letter of the alphabet EXCEPT Q and X. So, does anyone have any Q or X recs? I read science fiction, horror, non-fiction, and poetry!

This was the most uplifting thing I’ve read in awhile
being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

New #bookreview on Goodreads. Picked up an older and famous book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. 💙📚💡 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Samantha Baugus's review of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
4/5: I initially wanted to give this book three stars rather than four because Berendt emerged, to me, as a dishonest, or at least myopic, writer. I ended up settling on four because I started looking...

Hey, this is your regular reminder that “capitalism” does not mean “people trying to make a buck to survive in this economy.”

“Capitalism” means that the means of making a buck, and the decisions about who gets to do it, are all owned by conglomerates rather than the workers.

Democrats keep acting like they’re playing chess (badly) against the GOP.

Listen, the GOP is not playing chess. They have flipped the board and are taking a blowtorch to it.

Meanwhile, Dems are like, “Well, a pawn can only move this way, so I guess we’re stuck.”

It continues to both frustrate and confuse me that people don't see that being a bigot isn't ever resistance, it is only ever collaboration. They want you to do that. They don't care if you do it to them, you fight for their side every time you do.
1. You know, Pam Bondi, as an example, is not going to see or care if all y'all are sexist about her in my comments, but I will, and I'll think less of you. When I ask you not to be sexist/racist/ableist, etc in my comments, I'm not telling you not to resist. Just don't be shitty in my comments.
Saying you'd like to see the members of the current administration suffer is the meekest little gesture of resistance. I certainly don't feel like appeasing anybody. Let's not be so quick to self-censor and cave in to accepting what's going on. Maybe they can be boiled in oil, medieval style.

I wish we could discuss games (and media, really) without resorting to black and white rhetoric

Maybe I'm too fussy about words but I think it would fix so much if people stopped equating "I don't like X about game" to "game is garbage"

or "you dislike X about game, so you hate game and me"

"But why must there be a bad guy at all?" the large dog asked. "Why, instead of debating the identity of this 'bad guy,' are we not attempting to solve the underlying problem?"
