Last thing the country needs is someone like that in charge.
Wouldn’t it be the most poetic justice of all if Nigel Farage slipped into Downing Street in 2029, guaranteed a referendum by petition on the issue that the country cared most about – and then watched the silenced majority secure a vote on rejoining the EU?

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

It’s so important to understand- as Arthur explains here - that the so called peace plan is not only a disaster for Ukraine but a threat to all of Europe

Thank you for saying this loudly, clearly and publicly. There are clear historical parallels to such “peace” plans.
This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Before talking about damages, foes he actually have a case to bring to a court?
Opinion: President Donald Trump has squeezed millions of dollars apiece out of Meta, Paramount and ABC in out-of-court damages for claims that would have been dismissed by any self-respecting judge. A few million in BBC 'please leave us alone' money cannot be discounted on.ft.com/3LJznQw

Another excellent piece from John Burn-Murdoch in the Financial Times. Sadly, Neil Postman’s 1985 “Amusing Ouselves to Death” still stands. Is there hope for the end of “enshitification” of social media and public discourse?
Time spent on social media peaked in 2022 and has since gone into steady decline since. And this is not just the unwinding of a bump in screen time during pandemic lockdowns – what’s going on?

“Enshittification” was a term coined by Cory Doctorow, in 2022, to describe how the technologies that dominated our daily lives seemed to be all getting worse at the same time. Now, in a new book, he expands on the word that has become bleakly relevant.

A very calm statement given the explosive topic.

There is a thing I used to call the racism syllogism that works here:

all racists are evil;
I am not evil;
therefore, I am not a racist.

You can substitute my dad, my friend or anyone else and it works just as well.

This is appalling: both the deliberate and prolonged pushing of the boundaries on the part of the Russian aggressor and the irresolute response from the countries who ought to know better. There is nothing new here and surely lessons should have been learned. Not a step further!
Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down. I am in constant communication with the Secretary General of NATO and our allies.
